yes but you have to do some modifications to your ps2 (installing a modchip http://www.modchipstore.com/PlayStation-2-ModChips-1-259.html). otherwise, it won't play any downloaded/pirated games. you can use any type of cd/dvd though for the games.
no. the ps2 is only compatible with ps2 disks
