The Video Game Companies Battle: Xbox vs. Playstation

Wednesday Nov 19, 2008

The companies that create the video game decks like Xbox and Playstation are locked into what seems to be a bitter rivalry for the top spot in the hearts of gamers the world over. While both systems offer similar concepts, games and graphics, there are still those that have their favorites. Favorites mean more sales for one company or another. Then one must take into consideration the new advancements that are made and when the new decks hit the market. All of this is highly important to the consumers that make the purchases and the companies that produce them.

This past year was a good and bad year for Xbox. The release of their Xbox 360 model, which is thought to be the most advanced of all video game systems on the market hit the shelves just in time for the Christmas rush. The shortage of systems that followed was good for the company as new orders went through the roof and many people were told they would be waiting at least six months to see their new system. The secondary market exploded and some of the machines were selling for three or four times the retail price before the final day of Christmas shopping.

The only downfall for the company seems to have been a mistake made in their rush to hit the market with the system. The new Xbox 360 worked on the same premise as a computer, with a hard drive and processor. The system was released though before all the bugs were worked out and the games were locking up during play. The manufacturer rushed to release a patch but the damage was done.

The same can be said for Playstation on the good and bad front. While their Playstation 2 was a highly advanced and functional system with hundreds of games, they needed to release something new and high tech. They announced the Playstation 3 game system to the market but gave no certain release date for the machine. Anticipation built in the months leading up to Christmas and still no word from Sony. Low and behold Christmas came without a new release from Sony on the Playstation front, setting the company back millions in the market and allowing Xbox 360 to take the lead.

Finally in the spring of 2006 Sony announced that the release date of the Playstation 3 would be even further off as they were facing similar problems to that of Xbox. This announcement actually helped the company in many ways because people saw it as a sign that the new machine would not have the glitches that came with the Xbox 360 which made all involved very happy. There is still no definite date for the release from Sony but one can be assured that when the day arrives it will be a mad house for people to pick up the new machine.

The Video Game PlayStation 2

Play the most memorable and exhilarating scenes from The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and the forthcoming Episode III Revenge of the Sith including pod racing on Mos Espa, the repelling of the droid onslaught in the Genosian arena and Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon’s fatal fight with Darth Maul. Besides controlling the likes of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Anakin Skywalker and R2-D2, notorious dark side enemies such as Jango Fett, Darth Maul and Count Dooku appear in thrilling boss showdowns. As you progress through the game you unlock many new characters including the defeated bosses, and you must switch between them to solve puzzles using their special abilities.

In addition to a single-player mode, there is a ‘drop in, drop out’ two-player co-operative mode allowing a second player to enter or leave the action whenever they want. There is also a free-play mode where unlocked characters can be played in different scenarios to those of the films. This adds immeasurably to the game’s replayability and there are further incentives to complete the game for budding Jedi Knights in the form of hidden levels and vehicles.

Superman Returns: The Video Game for Sony PlayStation 2

Monday Nov 10, 2008

The Video Game for Sony PlayStation 2

Inspired by the 2006 feature film directed by Bryan Singer, Superman Returns features an open-ended Metropolis spanning 80 square miles of bustling activity. The Man of Steel begins the game with his superpowers fully intact, including flight, x-ray vision, heat vision, super hearing, super strength, super speed, and super breath. How players use these powers within the urban setting is up to them. Cars can be completely melted or simply cut into, objects can be blown out of harm’s way or frozen in place, and more. The storyline follows Superman as he returns to Earth after a five-year sabbatical in space. The city he loves is in constant peril from the likes of Metallo, Parasite, and the indomitable Lex Luthor. The action takes place from a third-person perspective as players complete story-driven missions, engage in mini-games, and rescue people from imminent danger. Since Superman is nearly invincible, his success is tied to the level of collateral damage experienced by the good citizens of Metropolis. Players must be actively involved in saving pedestrians from runaway trains, tornados, collapsing buildings, and much more. If the city or its populace suffers, Superman will be unable to continue. The game’s story-based objectives combine events from the film with new sequences, often involving the superhero tackling archvillains in stages specifically devoted to a lone enemy and its lackeys. Superman Returns also features an original orchestral soundtrack and voice acting from the film’s principal actors, including Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth, and newcomer Brandon Routh. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide Electronics and Computing Universal

What Can I Do With My Old Playstation 2 Video Games?

Monday Nov 10, 2008

I have lots of old games that I would like to get rid of. I know there is alot of places where I can trade in games. But is that for cash or just store credit? Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do with them?

Gamestop will buy for either cash or store credit, although the amount depends heavily on the games. Ebay may offer better prices, but it might be more difficult to sell.

It really depends on the games, I'd be able to offer a bit of an idea of how much you might make depending on what you have.
